CarterKing Quest for the Dream Speech and Debate Tournament

2019 — Atlanta, GA/US

Greetings, colleagues!

We are excited to host you for the 10th Annual Grady High School Carter/King Quest for the Dream Speech and Debate Tournament! (It would be our 11th if snow wouldn't have cancelled one of the tournaments). We are prepared to offer you great competition on Saturday, November 23rd. We'd like to share a few details:

Once again, the tournament is a GFCA First/Second Year and Varsity State Tournament. We are also a qualifying tournament for the National Individual Events Tournament of Championships (NIETOC and the Individual Events Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky (Individual Events TOC). We are thrilled we have the opportunity to offer these qualification opportunities to schools from all over Georgia, the South and those traveling from different parts of the country to join us.

We will offer the following events at our tournament this year: Novice Public Forum, Varsity Public Forum, Novice Lincoln-Douglas, Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Student Congress, Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation and Program Oral Interpretation. GFCA and NSDA rules will guide the tournament, but the tournament reserves the right to alter rules to benefit students. For instance, speech events may have two events in preliminary rounds while debate divisions may not. We will communicate any changes through email and text blast.

We will use tabroom.com for all events, using the e-ballots available through the program. This means all judges will need to have active tabroom accounts. We will have a computer lab open for individuals who prefer to use computers at the school and not bring their own.

Meals will be available at the student snack bar in the cafeteria. Judges and coaches are welcome to join us in our hospitality lounge for meals, snacks and beverages. We are quite fortunate at Grady HS to have such a supportive community of volunteer judges and parents. Thanks to the Parent Booster Club for sponsoring the hospitality lounge and snack bar!

Let us know if you need anything or have any questions. Details about logistics and other important information to follow soon.
